Cressana® breathed new life into an old watercress nursery back in 1983. Miriam Coessens was already convinced of the plant’s properties when she and her husband Karel van de Velde stumbled across a rundown watercress nursery in the Zwalm spa region of East Flanders.
For seventeen years, Cressana® supplied organic watercress to the fresh-food sector. A personal interest in health and nutrition prompted Cressana® to set aside a portion of its watercress for juice production. This concentrated watercress juice turned out to be particularly wholesome. Demand for Cressana® watercress juice from friends, family and neighbours grew rapidly. Freezing the juice meant that the temperature-controlled supply chain (cold chain) had to be guaranteed. Freeze-drying proved to be the ideal solution.
Freeze-dried watercress concentrate now forms the basis of Cressana's organic product range. Demand for Cressana's watercress products continued to grow, as did the company's production levels. After a fire destroyed its entire production facility on 3 January 2006, Cressana®built a brand-new open infrastructure that is perfectly integrated into its natural surroundings.
Today, Cressana® is a modern, professionally run family business specialised in growing and processing organic watercress into high-grade nutritional supplements.
